Joining First-Centenary United Methodist Church
If you have been worshiping with us and are interested in becoming a member, we welcome you. The process is simple:
• Let us know you’re ready to become a member.
To do this you can do one of the following:
- Tell one of the ministers.
- Contact Debbie Donohue, Director of Congregational Development, at 756- 2021 extension 3108 or e-mail ddonohue@fcumc.org.
- Check Wish to Join on the Ritual of Friendship register in any of the worship services.
• Let us know how you will be joining.
If you have questions about this, Debbie Donohue or one of the ministers will be happy to talk with you about it.
- Transfer of membership from another United Methodist Church. If you are a member of another United Methodist Church, you may transfer your membership to First-Centenary.
- Transfer of membership from another denomination. If you are a member of another denomination, you may transfer to the United Methodist Church.
- In either type of transfer, our Membership Secretary will contact your former church to notify them that you have united with First-Centenary.
- Profession of Faith. If you have never been a member of a church, you may join by Profession of Faith.
• Baptism
If you have been baptized at any age and in any Christian denomination, it is not necessary to be baptized again. The United Methodist Church recognizes all Christian baptisms. If you have not been baptized, you may be baptized at the time you join the church. A minister will talk with you about baptism beforehand.
• Picking a day to join
We will talk with you to determine the Sunday and the service when you will join. On that day, you will come forward at the designated time near the end of the service to respond to the membership vows. Following the service, our members will greet you and welcome you to First-Centenary (and we’ll give you a church directory so you can remember their names!) We will also take your picture for the church newsletter, the First-Centenarian.
